How we work

We are the first users of our own products. Everything is designed from the ground up, prototyped, tested through iterations and refined until it behaves — because a good idea developed inaccurately becomes an expensive failure, usually somebody else's.

We prefer the smallest, most power-efficient and simplest solution that meets the requirement, rather than the most capable one available. In flight hardware, unnecessary capability is mass, power, heat and another thing that can fail.

In-house capability

  • Electronics. Ground-up schematic and PCB design, from simple MCU circuits to 12-layer ARM and NVIDIA video processing boards.
  • Machining. 7075 aeronautical aluminium (Ergal), milled to tight tolerance on 3- and 5-axis machines. Material selection is what keeps simulation and finished part in agreement.
  • Firmware and flight software. Control laws, state estimation, embedded perception and safety-critical logic.
  • Manufacture. We will build and supply the end product, not only design it — most of our OEM relationships include production.

Range

The work is not confined to aircraft. Over ten years it has included professional UAVs, network management devices, rocketry safety systems and — genuinely — horse racing. The common thread is a system that has to work reliably in an environment that is not kind to it.

Where we are

KopterMax is a HeliEngadin brand, based in the Engadin, in eastern Switzerland. Design, machining and manufacture are all in-house.
